Active Stabilization and Precision altitude targeting

Picture
What is Active Stabilization?
Project Pics/Videos
Active Stabilization and Precision Altitude Targeting is a Senior Project that will be continuing for the 2020-2021 academic year! This project aims to use actuated canards to actively stabilize the rocket during ascent, then use the canards as an airbrake to precisely reach a predetermined altitude. The goal of this year is to improve, optimize, and refurbish the existing launch vehicle, implement an in-flight abort system, and to create a payload for the FAR 1030 competition.

Active Stabilization has a large focus on the GNC, Aerodynamics, and Payload subteams due to the nature of the project. The Recovery, Propulsion, Structures, and Business subteams are still integral parts of the design, manufacturing, and mission operations process.

In general, team members will benefit from working knowledge of Arduino/electrical hardware, Mechatronics, MATLAB, Solidworks, Excel, and OpenRocket. Specific teams may require or benefit greatly from class experience. Interested individuals should be dedicated to learning and willing to put in time and effort.
